Associate of Applied Science Degree for Bookkeeping and Payroll Specialist and Associate of Applied Science Degree for Medical Administrative Assistant
Richardson, Texas – August 5, 2019– The Vista College online campus has just opened enrollment for two new evidence-based degree programs: Associate of Applied Science Degree for Bookkeeping and Payroll Specialist and Associate of Applied Science Degree for Medical Administrative Assistant.
“This is an exciting time of growth in our online division,” said Online Director Dr. Art Waller. “Our goal is to ensure our online programs are always aligned with today’s jobs and students’ interests. These programs continue to gain popularity because of the flexibility they provide to our students, helping them to juggle work and family responsibilities while furthering their education at more convenient times in their schedules.”
Designed to provide students with an understanding of business functions, the online Bookkeeping and Payroll Specialist program provides instruction on the basic requirements and practices needed to accurately compute and maintain records and reports related to the general ledger, accounts payable, receivables, distribution of wages, and employee benefits. The program will also cover skills that focus on professionalism, communication, and problem solving.
Graduates may find entry-level employment in bookkeeping or financial clerking. These positions could involve working with the government, accounting firms, business offices, or financial companies. Upon completion of the program graduates are also prepared to take the National Bookkeepers Association (NBA) Uniform Payroll Certification exam, leading to the Payroll Certification designation.
The new evidence-based Bookkeeping and Payroll Specialist program is competency based. Graduates will be able to demonstrate with evidence that they are prepared for entry-level management positions.
Vista College’s online Associate of Applied Science Degree for Medical Administrative Assistants is a program focused on front-office duties and administrative functions within healthcare organizations. The program provides a combination of academic theory and technical skills that are necessary for today’s medical office environment. Throughout the program, professionalism, patient relations, critical thinking, adherence to the ethical and legal requirements of a medical practice, and proper communications skills are emphasized.
“With the many advances being made in healthcare, people are living longer, and this only increases the demand for medical administrative assistants,” said Dr. Waller, “These professionals are the backbone of medical facilities across the country that not only ensure the business side runs smoothly, but also play a key role in making sure the patients receive the best care. The short training period, great working hours, nice salary, and rewarding work in a professional environment make this career path very attractive.”
The curriculum for this program is evidence-based. Assessments are used to demonstrate to employers that graduates are prepared and employable. Graduates also emerge ready to take the CMAA national certification exam and they may seek employment in a variety of entry-level positions within healthcare settings.
