Lubbock, TX– February 1, 2017–Vista College, Lubbock Campus, announces the addition of a new Diploma program in Medical Insurance Billing and Coding (MIBC). Enrollment has begun for this new program, and classes start on February 6, 2017.
Focusing on procedural knowledge of industry practices with an emphasis on insurance claims preparation and processing, the MIBC program prepares students to become part of a medical office staff. In addition to learning the universal coding system – used to define thousands of medical conditions, diagnoses, surgeries, tests and other procedures – students will learn medical terminology by studying basic anatomy and physiology, including the diseases and conditions treated in a physician’s office.
According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the Medical Billing and Coding field is expected to grow by 21 percent between now and 2020.
“That is almost 40,000 new job openings in this field in the next few years,” said Stephanie Ross, campus director, Vista College. “Vista prides itself on keeping up with the latest trends and needs in the workforce. When you take a look at the aging population, the importance of health data and the digitization of health records as well as the thriving medical community in Lubbock, it is easy to see why this would be a solid career choice. We are thrilled to offer this new and exciting career option for area residents.”
A student who has earned a MIBC diploma from Vista College can be a valuable asset to many different types of employers in the medical field. Typical employers hiring MIBC graduates include doctors’ offices, clinics, hospitals, urgent care facilities and health insurance companies.
