Vista College Ft Smith Campus Now Offering IT & Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Programs

Fort Smith, AR– February 8, 2016 – The Vista College Fort Smith campus has added two new programs to its curriculum: Information Technology (both a Diploma and associate level Degree) and Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (Diploma).

The associate of applied science Degree in Information Technology emphasizes networking administration, not only preparing students for entry level employment, but also for advancement into specialized areas of the IT and networking fields. Graduates can expect to obtain positions such as network technician, help desk analyst, IT technician, desktop support specialist, and technical support specialist.

The Information Technology Diploma program prepares students for entry level employment in the IT field, giving students hands-on experience, customer service skills, and A+ & Net+ certifications expected by today’s employers. Graduates will be qualified for positions such as help desk analyst, customer support Representative, Technical Support Specialist, Network Installer, and Field Service Technician.

The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Diploma program provides students with a foundation in industrial plant and production machinery installation, maintenance, repair, and fabrication. Because classroom learning is combined with hands-on application, students apply their knowledge by working with machinery such as pumps, valves, hydraulic/pneumatic, and bulk material handling equipment. Skills taught include the safe use of rigging techniques and how to function as a safe and productive part of the maintenance team as well as supervisory skills and crew leadership. Graduates of this program are prepared to seek employment in entry-level industrial maintenance positions such as facilities maintenance technician, machine adjuster, industrial machinery mechanic, maintenance worker, and fixer or over hauler.

“The demand for these programs continues to grow, and we see them as exciting additions to our Fort Smith community,” said Sheila Gawne, campus director. “Because our instructors are on the front lines of businesses and up-to-date with the latest trends and demands, our students receive superior training for current day challenges. As long as our programs show results in employment and career success among our graduates, we will continue to offer them in the community.”
