Vista College offers classes leading to a diploma and certificate in vocational nursing.
Students who successfully complete our program and meet state requirements
are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Vocational
Nurses (NCLEX-PN) for state licensure. The scope of practice for
licensed vocational nurses (LVN) is regulated by the individual states.
Licensed vocational nurses are an integral part of the healthcare team. Examples of care provided by the LVN include monitoring patients' conditions, educating patients and their families about the disease process and the associated care, and collaborating with other disciplines. Some state laws permit vocational nurses to administer medications prescribed by a doctor or begin IV fluids. As an LVN, you will work in a job that makes a difference. Assess patients' physical, emotional, and mental status Review patient records Supervise other LVNs or nurses aides Assist with medical treatments as permitted by state law The training program at Vista College provides vocational nurses with the education to work in nursing homes, hospitals, doctors' offices, clinics, and private homes. Vocational nurses see to the patient's immediate needs and develop plans for care. In clinic and office settings, they may also perform administrative functions such as scheduling appointments, maintaining records, and other clerical duties. In private homes, vocational nurses provide patients with basic care. Due to the increase in home health care services as the population ages, vocational nurses are in higher demand. Educational training from Vista College will ensure a successful career helping others receive the care they need. (Licensed Vocational Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse are the same course of study depending on the State where the training and certification takes place.) Practical Nurse Diploma and Certificate is available at the Las Cruces, New Mexico campus. |
