Medical Information/Office Specialist Diploma
There are few people with a more important responsibility in a hospital, clinic or medical office than the person who manages the medical coding and billing.
That person is the Medical Information/Office Specialist or Medical Billing Specialist, and in less than one year you can learn the practical skills and useful knowledge to step into this dynamic career.
In our Medical Information/Office Program, experts and healthcare professionals will work with you one-on-one in the classroom and laboratory to help you sharpen your skills.
Your Medical Information/Office Specialist diploma can lead to a personally satisfying career. You will learn to perform such critical duties as:
- Processing medical claims and collecting payments from insurance companies
- Correctly and accurately maintaining medical records by assigning standard codes to procedures
- Efficiently managing the administrative side of the medical office
- Assisting patients with their insurance claim forms
As you can tell, this is an important position that medical facilities must fill, and they will do so with only qualified Medical Information/Office Specialist personnel.
Preparing for a Medical Information/Office Specialist Career
Our program includes courses that can be your first step toward a successful medical career. Courses leading to a certificate in Medical Billing and Coding include:
- Medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology
- Medical office administrative procedures
- Medical coding and billing training
- Health and medical insurance and claims processing
- HIPAA privacy and security rules
- Triage, operative and medical report training
- Inpatient accounting procedures
After you complete your prerequisite courses, you will be eligible for an externship in a medical office. Successful externships may lead to a job offer.
