Killeen: A Booming City Located in the Heart of Texas

Completing your education with Vista College enables you to develop the skills necessary to launch your career in some of the many occupational fields.

Our branch campus in Killeen, Texas, approximately 150 miles south of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and 75 miles north of the capital city of Austin, offers a rapidly growing population base and a wealth of employment opportunities. Killeen is also the site of Fort Hood, one of the largest United States military installations in the world.

A Half-Century of Exponential Growth

Killeen has come a long way from its humble origins as a railroad town in the 1880s. The city has grown from a relatively small town with a population of just over 21,000 in 1955 to a thriving city of more than 130,000 residents as of 2011. The 2000 U.S. Census recorded the city’s population at 86,911, and the roughly 50 percent increase since then has made Killeen one of the fast-growing areas in the country.

Employment Opportunities in a Number of Fields

While Fort Hood is by far the largest employer in Killeen, the area also employs a significant number of workers in industries from healthcare to education to banking, all of which require a technical Diploma or college Degree for entry and advancement.

We offer a wide range of educational programs, as well as career services assistance for graduates that can enhance your chances for career success in this flourishing part of the country.

An Area Filled with Natural Beauty

The Killeen area’s natural beauty attracts visitors from all over. Water lovers can explore Benton Lake, Stillhouse Lake and Chalk Ridge Falls. The Miller Springs Nature Center in nearby Temple, Texas features 260 acres of undeveloped land that offers an abundance of opportunities for hiking, fishing, picnicking and wildlife observation.

Educational and Cultural Opportunities Abound

Killeen is home to Vive Les Art Theatre, a full-time arts organization offering a variety of musical and theatrical productions, as well as the First Cavalry Division and Fourth Infantry Division museums at Fort Hood. Killeen’s proximity to Austin provides easy access to one of the most eclectic and diverse cultural regions in the country.
