Medical Insurance Billing And Coding (MIBC) And Patient Care Tech (PCT) Programs Now Offered At Computer Career Center, A Division Of Vista College
Las Cruces, NM– August 11, 2015 – Computer Career Center, a Division of Vista College, announces the addition of two new programs: Medical Insurance Billing and Coding (MIBC), an Associate in Applied Science, and Patient Care Technician (PCT), a Diploma program. Enrollment begins immediately for classes in both programs, which start September 8, 2015.
Focusing on procedural knowledge of industry practices with an emphasis on insurance claims preparation and processing, the MIBC program prepares students to become part of a medical office support staff. In addition to learning the universal coding system – used to define thousands of medical conditions, diagnoses, surgeries, tests and other procedures – students will learn medical terminology by studying basic anatomy and physiology, including the diseases and conditions encountered in a physician’s office.
“While the Affordable Care Act has changed many aspects of America’s health insurance, the need to process insurance claims continues,” said Amanda Glover, campus director. “In fact, there are millions of new insurance customers now, escalating the demand for claims processing specialists. Additionally, we also know that people are living longer, increasing the need for health services.”
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) Diploma program combines basic medical knowledge and hands-on skills in basic care and living activities. Students will be prepared to work alongside doctors and other health care professionals, providing direct care to individuals in a variety of health care environments such as nursing and residential care facilities, hospitals and home health agencies. Program topics include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, time management, emergency care, admission and discharge procedures, rehabilitation, nutrition, phlebotomy, and electrocardiograms (EKG) technology. Students will also learn the procedures for collecting blood and non-blood specimens; documenting rhythm strips; and performing routine EKGs.
“Many typical duties previously performed by nurses and staff from several different departments are now being handled by PCTs,” added Glover. “We have seen an increasing need for cross-trained health care workers in all types of health care facilities,” added Glover. “Both of these new programs give Las Cruces area residents some exciting new career options in a variety of work settings from doctor’s offices to health care clinics to nursing homes. This is an exciting time of growth for our campus, which also just added two new electrical Degree programs. We hope you’ll come see us to explore these exciting new career paths.”
